⛳ PGA DFS Picks: WGC Workday Round 2 Showdown Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel l Patrick Reed 2/26

This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. We’re in search of a few recommendations for the third round of the Genesis Invitational. In a typical Showdown GPP, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first place on average. On top of that, FanDuel has tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 2 of the WGC Workday.

Round 2 PGA DFS Showdown Picks: WGC Workday

Previous Round Recap

A new course, especially one with such prestige, always brings such excitement around a tournament. It didn’t let us down in Round 1, with scores ranging from 83 to 66. That’s a sign of a good golf course. With water looming on so many shots and on some holes, both the drive and the approach, it makes for some very big scores. In fact, on Day 1, there were over 35 double bogeys or worse. That’s on pace to double last week’s number, with half the number of golfers in the field.

Not all was bad, though, at least for some golfers. Matthew Fitzpatrick continued his good form from last week, shooting a day-low 66. Webb Simpson, who has taken the last few weeks off, ties Fitzpatrick at that score. Others continuing their from last week include Jon Rahm, Tony Finau and Cameron Smith; all shot 67 on the day. Brooks Koepka joins Billy Horschel and Sergio Garcia as the closest chases to Fitzpatrick and Simpson at 5 under.

Quick Hitter Round 1 Stat Recap

Daniel Berger, coming off of his most recent win a few weeks ago, was surprisingly very bad on the greens on Thursday. He lost over 3 strokes on the day while gaining just about the same amount with the ball striking. Will Zalatoris is in the exact same scenario. If you are a consistent reader of this content, then you are aware that I like to target golfers who gained strokes in every stroke gained category. The golfers that did that in Round 1 are:

  • Matthew Fitzpatrick
  • Wade Ormsby
  • Billy Horschel
  • Patrick Reed
  • Brooks Koepka
  • David Lipsky

General Strategy and WGC Workday PGA DFS Picks

Conditions in Round 2 should yield ideal scoring conditions, so it will just be man against course again. As we saw yesterday, that has quite a high variance.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 2 of the WGC Workday

  • Rory McIlroy ($9,200): With a quick turnaround after a missed cut last week, McIlroy looked really solid for most of his round. But he just couldn’t make any putts, even using a new putter, but it’s the only club that held him back in Round 1 — he lost 1.14 strokes putting.
  • Patrick Reed ($9,100): The de facto defending champion of the event was one of six golfers to be positive in every strokes gained category and sits just 2 back of the lead. Wider fairways, tough green complexes and scorable par 5’s are made for Reed.
  • Collin Morikawa ($7,900): Morikawa is on fire with his irons right now. They couldn’t be clicking any better. He gained another 4 strokes with them on Thursday but struggled off the tee and on the greens. If he clears those up, he could get back in this thing in a hurry with how good his irons are right now.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 2

Victor Perez ($6,600)

I chronicled a bit during the lead-up to the event as a guy that when he gets into contention, he usually winds up on the first page of the leaderboard come Sunday. To do that, however, he is going to need his irons to tick up a bit, as he was able to gain strokes in the other three categories but lost slightly on his approach game. If that changes in the coming rounds, he will be right there on Sunday looking for his first top-10 on the PGA Tour.

DraftKings and FanDuel Genesis Invitational Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Kevin Kisner ($7,600)
  • Viktor Hovland ($9,500)
  • Brooks Koepka ($8,600)
  • Sungjae Im ($8,500)
