Best Ball Fantasy Value QBs | $100 Underdog BONUS + FREE Stokastic SUB

The quarterback position has seen a heavy drop-off, with many using the late-round quarterback strategy and hammering running backs and wide receivers early on. Gone are the days of drafting a quarterback in the first couple rounds. Whatever the strategy is, Best Ball is about finding decent stacking options as well. For the most part, Best Ball players know that winning a tournament like the Best Ball Mania or the Puppy Bowl will require an incredible amount of good luck and those high-upside stacks.

Top 4 Best Ball Value Quarterbacks

Last year, the top quarterback was Josh Allen, who put up 417.58 fantasy points, 20 points more than second place (Justin Herbert). The 13th-place quarterback last season was Derek Carr, who produced 270.6 points. Allen really only scored about 1 more fantasy point on average than Herbert but averaged 8.5 points more than Carr and the rest of the QB2 range. Only two of the quarterbacks in the top 16 at the end of last season had less than 100 yards rushing: Tom Brady, who had 81, and Matthew Stafford who had 43. Meanwhile, Brady passed for a league-leading 5,316 yards, while Stafford ranked third. It is plain to see that quarterbacks that add with their legs are the ultimate source of upside.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (Underdog ADP: 51)

Last year was no doubt a down year for Patrick Mahomes, as he finished as the QB4. Mahomes had a strong start and finish to the season, but Weeks 7 to 13 cost him a chance at being the top quarterback for the season. The rough stretch no doubt had something to do with his injury he suffered against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7. The hit to the head of Mahomes forced him to miss the rest of the Week 7 game, even though he was cleared from the concussion protocol.

Mahomes is also seeing a big change at his pass catchers this season, as old reliable Tyreek Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins, while Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson both signed elsewhere. In previous seasons, the stacking options with Mahomes were very difficult because Travis Kelce, Hill and Mahomes all went in the early rounds. 2022 is the first time where drafters can actually wait a bit for a Mahomes stack. Kelce is going to cost a first-round pick in most drafts, but there is plenty of upside with the team’s other pass catchers, such as newly signed Juju Smith-Schuster (ADP: 53), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (ADP: 92), Skyy Moore (ADP: 97) or even a late dart on Mecole Hardman (ADP: 124). Mahomes is being drafted at his floor because of the uncertainty. See where Mahomes is ranked compared to other quarterbacks in Stokastic’s Best Ball Draft Guide.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (Underdog ADP: 60)

If someone looked at Kyler Murray’s stats from 2021, they wouldn’t be overly impressed, considering he finished as the QB10 in 2021. Murray started off the season on a record pace, passing for 689 yards, rushing for 51 and adding nine total touchdowns. The upside is there, but many drafters are worried about what this offense will look like without high-flying Christian Kirk (signed with Jaguars) and DeAndre Hopkins (suspended first six games).

The Arizona Cardinals replaced Kirk with Marquise Brown (ADP: 38), and they have multiple names to stack for upside with a top-tier mobile quarterback, like tight end Zach Ertz (ADP: 107). If drafters are lucky enough to be alive in the last couple weeks, Arizona plays Tampa in Week 16 and then will be in a dome in Atlanta for Week 17, which should be a high-scoring affair.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (Underdog ADP: 88)

The common theme in these first three picks has been turnover at the wide receiver, and Dak Prescott will also be seeing some new faces catching passes this year. The Cowboys moved Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick this offseason, but they signed James Washington and used their third-round pick to grab Jalen Tolbert.

Prescott missed one game last season but still managed to be the QB7 in 2021. His rushing average took a hit, as he rushed for just 146 yards, half of what he averaged in his first four years as a pro. It’s no surprise that his totals were down last season after he suffered a gruesome ankle injury in Week 5 of 2020. In 2022, Prescott is being slept on. He is currently being drafted as the 11th-best quarterback, but Stokastic’s Best Ball rankings have him closer to a top-five quarterback option this season.

Justin Fields (Underdog ADP: 126)

It was truly a miserable season for Justin Fields, as former Bears coach Matt Nagy clearly didn’t trust him. It also seemed like Nagy was setting Fields up for failure with the game plan anytime he came in. Fields was able to break through in Weeks 8, 9, 14 and 15, which showed that he does have NFL competent skills. The big takeaways with Fields are his arm and rushing abilities. These are the keys to a high-upside fantasy producer. Fields appeared in 12 games last season, starting just 10 of those, but he still managed to rack up 420 yards on the ground, which ranked fifth among quarterbacks in 2021. His stacking options are also going under the radar, with wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ADP: 57) and tight end Cole Kmet (ADP: 128) offering upside at their prices. Fields is being drafted as QB16 in 2022 drafts, but he has the skills and upside to be a top-10 option this year.
