College Football Week 3 Late Slate DFS Picks: Tanner Mordecai & Rashee Rice Offer High Ceiling vs. Maryland

After a monster 13-game main college football slate we have a lighter eight-game night slate as DraftKings does its best to get us ready for a full day of NFL football on Sunday.

Florida plays host to South Florida, Texas Tech travels to N.C. State and in perhaps the matchup of the night, Sparty takes its show on the road as No. 11 Michigan State heads to the pacific northwest for a battle with Washington.

With eight games in play and a bunch of teams still playing against inferior competition, there are plenty of strong CBB DFS picks at all positions and some potentially lopsided scores across the board. This article will provide NCAAF DFS picks and lineup advice for the DraftKings slate on Sept. 17 that locks at 6 p.m. ET.

College Football DFS: Week 3 Saturday Night CFB Picks

Quarterback

Tanner Mordecai, SMU ($8,000) — A few really good quarterbacks on this slate, but at $8K Mordecai stands out as the top value option in a really good spot against Maryland. Averaging 27.5 DraftKings points through two games, Mordecai has already thrown seven touchdown passes and facing a Terrapins defense that just got picked apart by Charlotte, there’s a lot to like about him and the SMU offense in this spot. C.J. Stroud and Taulia Tagovailoa are also both strong plays. If you prefer to build around one of those guys, do your thing. At a reduced $8K price tag, however, Mordecai is the top value option and if the game script breaks in his favor, it won’t be surprising at all to see him as the highest scoring quarterback on the slate.

Other Quarterbacks: C.J. Stroud, Ohio State ($9,500); Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland ($8,500); Devin Leary, N.C. State ($7,000); Michael Penix Jr., Washington ($6,300); Frank Harris, UTSA ($5,700); Max Johnson, Texas A&M ($4,500)

Running Backs

Bijan Robinson, Texas ($6,500) — One of the best overall players on the slate, there’s a ton to like about Robinson tonight and his $6.5K price tag makes him a building block type in all formats. With Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers out 4-to-6 weeks with an injured shoulder, expect the Longhorns to lean even more heavily on Robinson, and after dropping 22 DraftKings points on Alabama last week it’s safe to say his ceiling against UTSA is through the roof. If this game happens to stay closer than expected, that should just mean more touches for Robinson, and as one of the premier running backs in all of college football he’s a steal at this price point in any type of game script.

Trevor Etienne, Florida ($3,900) — A little bit ‘boom-or-bust’ considering he’s only had 14 total carries so far this year, but Etienne was Florida’s most successful running back in a loss to Kentucky last week and at $3.9K he offers upside rarely found in this price range. The younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguar Travis, Trevor was a big time recruit for Billy Napier and the Gators and he’s been extremely impressive so far despite his limited sample size. Etienne’s 110 rushing yards are good for 13th most in the SEC among qualified backs; he ranks third in breakaway percentage (65.5%), fourth in yards per attempt (7.9), fourth in yards after contact (4.8), eighth in missed tackles forced (9) and eighth in rushes of 10+ yards (5). Simply put, Etienne is on the fast track to becoming Florida’s next great running back and at $3.9K he looks like one of the best plays on the entire slate.

Other Running Backs: TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State ($8,900); Miyan Williams, Ohio State ($6,400); Devon Achane, Texas A&M ($6,200); Jalen Berger, Michigan State ($5,900); Israel Abanikanda, Pittsburgh ($5,800); Tahj Brooks, Texas Tech ($5,600)

Wide Receivers

Rashee Rice, SMU ($8,400) — Much like Charlie Jones from the day slate, Rice looks like an auto-lock in all formats at $8.4K. With 33+ DraftKings points in each of SMU’s first two games, Rice is a massive target hog for the Mustangs and his rapport with Mordecai seems to only be getting stronger and stronger. He has 17 receptions for 298 yards and three scores through two games and is arguably the top overall play on the slate at any position. Plug him in with confidence and move on.

Zakhari Franklin, UTSA ($6,300) — We definitely want some Roadrunners exposure tonight and Franklin is their top piece at $6.3K. Averaging 30.1 DraftKings points through UTSA’s first two games, Franklin and quarterback Frank Harris seem to have one of the best connections in college football, which is not surprising in the least as the two have now played together for four years. The ultimate cog in our machine in all formats, Franklin fits any type of build and at $6.3K he has one of the best floor/ceiling combinations on the slate.

Other Wide Receivers: Rakim Jarrett, Maryland ($7,200); Jalen McMillan, Washington ($6,800); Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State ($6,500); Dontay Demus Jr., Maryland ($6,000); Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State ($5,900); Joshua Cephus, UTSA ($5,700); Myles Price, Texas Tech ($5,300); Jeshaun Jones, Maryland ($4,900); Jerjuan Newton, Toledo ($4,300); Ja’Lynn Polk, Washington ($3,200)
