MLB DFS Picks Monday 5/30: Spotlight Pitchers & Top Stacks Today

Monday, May 30, has a full day of baseball culminating in a featured six-game slate with a first pitch of 7:10 p.m. Let’s get into the top MLB DFS picks today for pitchers and stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy baseball lineups.

DraftKings & FanDuel MLB DFS Picks Today (5/30)

Top MLB DFS Stack: Red Sox vs. RHP Tyler Wells — 5.8 implied runs

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. Boston rolled up five home runs against lefty Bruce Zimmermann, and today they have a matchup with sacrificial lamb Tyler Wells. While Wells does not have the same home run issues as Zimmermann, he has a paltry 25 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, as he pitches to contact.

Look to all the Red Sox with power from either side of the plate, including Rafael Devers (.328 ISO), J.D. Martinez (.244 ISO), Xander Bogaerts (.206 ISO) and Trevor Story (.196 ISO). Franchy Cordero should be in the lineup, and he is a true discount dandy on DraftKings ($3,000) and FanDuel ($2,500). With eligibility at first base and in the outfield, he’s currently coming in as the No. 1 overall fantasy-point-per-dollar player at first base in the new Awesemo Top Batters Tool.. Enrique “Kike” Hernandez and Alex Verdugo can be sprinkled in as well for full stacks.

Late Slate: Angels vs. RHP Jose Berrios — 4.5 implied runs

It should be no surprise that the Dodgers are popping in the Awesemo Stack Tool as they host Zach Thompson and the Pirates. The 28-year-old righty struggled with a 10.05 ERA in April, but he has improved across five May outings with a 2.25 ERA. The truth, of course, is somewhere in the middle, and Los Angeles should be able to exploit this matchup.

Edwin Rios is a steal, as he should be in the middle of the order with a right-handed hurler on the mound and his salary is below that of the average hitter across the board. Freddie Freeman is also drawing top marks today with his .393 wOBA and .206 ISO in his last 651 lefty-righty matchups. Kevin Pillar has joined the Dodgers, and he is at the minimum salary on FanDuel and $100 above the floor on DraftKings. Finally, we can round things out with a couple former MVPs in Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger, along with All-Stars Trea and Justin Turner (no relation).

Best MLB DFS Pitchers Today

Top Target: RHP Walker Buehler vs. Pirates — 3.3 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $9,200 | FanDuel $10,300

Walker Buehler has an outstanding matchup today with the punchless Pirates, though a lack of strikeouts keeps him from being a must-play option. Buehler leads the league with six wins, but in his last three starts, spanning 16 innings, he has recorded only 11 strikeouts. With his salary, he really needs to collect his seventh win tonight or notch half a dozen strikeouts. This is a safe play, though in tournaments skipping Buehler is an easy way to find differentiation from the majority of the field.

Secondary Target: RHP Spencer Strider at Diamondbacks — 3.4 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $6,900 | FanDuel $6,800

Tonight, rookie Spencer Strider will be making his first career starts and he looks great in the Awesemo MLB DFS projections with his favorable matchup against the Diamondbacks. The Chase Field roof is scheduled to be closed for this game, which is a tick in favor of the pitchers. This season in 24.1 innings, Strider has an eye-popping 37 strikeouts, and while that rate is unsustainable as a starter, he should be stretched out enough to approach 70 to 75 pitches tonight. This makes him a neutral play on FanDuel, where the salary cap is fairly loose, but an excellent SP2 on DraftKings.

Early Slate Target: LHP Framber Valdez at Athletics — 3.3 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $8,700 | FanDuel $10,500

Oakland has scored the fourth-fewest runs in the league this season and it is averaging only 3.46 per game. Framber Valdez is a good real-life pitcher, but he lacks strikeout upside, which keeps him as just an average option. To his credit, he does shoulder a heavy workload and regularly reaches 100 pitches. This has allowed him to work deep into games and he has the fourth-most quality starts in the league with seven, including each of his last six appearances. The Athletics will likely roll with an entirely right-handed lineup, but this should not be an issue for Valdez, who boasts a 70.9% ground ball rate in his last 672 opposite-handed matchups.

Additional Opportunities

David Peterson is going against Washington tonight and his 4.5 over/under for his strikeout total is something to consider in the MLB player props market. Currently the Awesemo projections have him for 4.0 strikeouts in a matchup where the projected Nationals lineup has a low 17.4% strikeout rate against southpaws over the last two seasons. There is a 63% chance that Peterson lands under his number tonight, and that is worth exploring in parlays or as a single bet.

Other Pitching Options

  1. Dylan Bundy at Detroit Tigers (early)
  2. Kyle Gibson vs. San Francisco Giants (afternoon)
  3. David Peterson vs. Washington Nationals (main)
  4. Drew Rasmussen at Texas Rangers (main)
  5. Zac Gallen vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (late)

One-Off Hitters

  1. Wrigley Field (both sides in both games)
  2. Miami Marlins at Coors Field (early)
  3. Austin Hays at LHP Rich Hill (main)
  4. Francisco Lindor vs. RHP Erick Fedde (main)
  5. Ji-man Choi at RHP Glenn Otto (late)
