PrizePicks Fantasy Baseball: MLB Picks Tonight

Note: Player props are constantly moving over at PrizePicks. Make the MLB picks below as soon as possible knowing they might change later on in the day.

Bryce Harper Over 1.5 Hits + Walks

Few players in recent memory have been hotter than Harper has been the last month. That may sound like hyperbole, but Harper is averaging over two total bases a game in the last 28 days — a span of 23 games — and his slugging alone is pushing .900 in the last seven. He is also close to a walk a game in the last 28 days, on top of his 26 hits, which means Harper is averaging 2.13 hits/walks over this stretch. On a more micro level, Harper has hit the over in seven of his last 10 games in which he had multiple plate appearances. And though Taijuan Walker is a solid pitcher, he is surrendering an OPS of nearly 1.200 in his last four starts. This hits/walks line is probably the most volatile play that PrizePicks offers, but Harper’s streak of hot hitting makes him about as safe a play on 1.5 as there is on this slate.

Pete Alonso Under 0.5 Runs + RBIs

This is a fairly risky pick because Alonso as much as anyone else is capable of hitting the over with one swing of the bat. However, Alonso has been in a bit of a rut over the last a couple weeks, as his OPS is just .625 over the last 14 days and he has just 12 combined runs/RBIs in that span of 15 games. In fact, his BABIP is a paltry .125 in 63 plate appearances in this stretch. Alonso has totaled either a run or an RBI in one of his last four games and five of his last 11, which indicates he is hitting the over on this line slightly less than half the time as of late. And that is not even factoring in today’s pitching matchup against Zack Wheeler. While Wheeler’s stuff has not been quite as good the last few starts, with his OPS surrendered in the .700s the last month as opposed to .584 for the year, he is still retiring batters at an above-average level. For Alonso to break out of his slump, he is going to need to get to one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2021.

Mitch Haniger Under 1.5 Hits + Walks

Yankees starter Luis Gil has MLB game under his belt, so it is foolhardy to point to the small sample size to predict performance today. That said, he was excellent in his debut, going six strong and allowing just five base runners and no runs. Again, that does not mean he will shut down the Mariners in start No. 2, but it does at least reflect that he appears to be a major league pitcher. On a slate not exactly loaded with good pitchers, Gil’s potential makes Mariner bats look a bit more live to go under on their totals. For this line of 1.5 hits/walks, PrizePicks offers two Seattle hitters: Haniger and J.P. Crawford. Crawford is swinging the bat well lately and Haniger has fallen into a huge slump, so Haniger gets the nod. He has hit the over on this line just three times in the last 13 games, and in this two-week stretch he is averaging 1.15 hits/walks per game. His OPS is down to .512 in the last two weeks, so he is clearly struggling to see the ball against anyone. Facing a brand-new pitcher in Gil today, it makes sense to continue riding Haniger’s poor stretch.
