NBA DFS Picks Today: Sunday, Feb. 12

Core Play of the Day — Jayson Tatum: Boston Celtics-Memphis Grizzlies

Jayson Tatum is the clear building block for Sunday’s short two-game slate. Only Ja Morant is within 10 fantasy points of his median projection, and the 24-year-old forward is one of just four players who have a fantasy projection of more than 40 points. Jaylen Brown (facial fracture) and Marcus Smart (ankle) remain out, which clears the path for Tatum to be the first, second and third option on offense.

The four-time All-Star is averaging over 50 fantasy points for the first time in his career. Straight across the board, Tatum is posting personal-best marks of 37.3 minutes, 21.5 field goal attempts, 30.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists. This works out to nearly 1.4 fantasy points per minute, which is among the elite fantasy rates in the league. Memphis does have one of the better defenses in the NBA, though it is no match for the volume that should be heading Tatum’s way this afternoon.

Additional NBA DFS Building Blocks Pick – Sports Betting Opportunities

Tatum is an interesting option in the betting market, with both his 32.5 points prop and his 47.5 points + rebounds + assists prop.  On the season, Tatum has 22 double-doubles and he has tallied 42.5 or more points + rebounds + assists in 29 of 56 games. Even better, in six of the eight games he has played this season without Brown, Tatum has 48 or more points + rebounds + assists.

NBA Bet Pro has Tatum projected for 34.1 points and 47.9 points + rebounds + assists. BetMGM currently has these overs at -108 and -105 respectively, which gives this coinflip outcome a decent 7% expected ROI.

Detroit Pistons-Toronto Raptors

Today the Pistons will be providing the better point-per-dollar options on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The Raptors are double-digit home favorites, but they are a neutral defensive matchup. Marvin Bagley III, Cade Cunningham and Nerlens Noel are out with injuries, and James Wiseman, Saddiq Bey and Kevin Knox II are tied up in the yet-to-be-finalized four-team trade hinging on Golden State accepting that Gary Payton II is going to be out longer than anticipated with his injury.

There are still plenty of options available for coach Dwane Casey, but he seems to have settled on a nine-ish man rotation. The minutes will of course fluctuate across the players based on his whims and the vagaries of in-game situations. The starters are the most likely to flirt with 30 minutes of action, so Bojan Bogdanovic, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Killian Hayes and Isaiah Stewart will be the primary targets.

Hamidou Diallo, Alec Burks, Isaiah Livers and Cory Joseph will be the reserves, though all of their potential upside will be based on them either playing their way into more minutes or the starters ending up in foul trouble.

Jakob Poeltl played 17 minutes off the bench in his return to Toronto, and his presence makes things a little crowded with Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa. Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam are the mainstays who should be able to reach the 40-fantasy-point plateau in this matchup. Gary Trent Jr. and Scottie Barnes are fine tournament options, though their upside potential is heavily influenced by their ability to put the biscuit in the basket.

Final Thoughts on NBA DFS Picks Building Blocks Today

Today is going to be a quick afternoon slate, with the games tipping off within one hour of each other. All eyes are, of course, going to be on the Super Bowl coverage, so be vigilant, as there is a chance that some of the contests may end up with some overlay.
