2023 Masters Round 2 Weather Report: Sloppy Conditions Coming to Augusta National?

The Masters has been impacted by weather for the last few years, and this year’s event is expected to be no different. Thursday’s action featured warm, humid temperatures at Augusta National, but now the nasty weather is supposed to come into play. The Masters Round 2 weather report shows we could be in for a dicey Friday.

Masters Tournament Round 2 Weather Report

Per The Weather Channel, there is a 90% chance of rain on Friday, with afternoon thunderstorms a possibility. The rain may hold off for the morning tee times, with a 50% chance of rain before noon, but the weather gets treacherous after that. Showers are expected to take over the afternoon, which could very well halt play at some point.

In response to the weather, The Masters announced after the Thursday rounds that each Friday tee time will be beginning 30 minutes earlier, starting at 7:30 a.m. The last group will now tee off at 1:30 p.m. instead of 2:00.

On the bright side, the humidity is expected to come down, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s. Winds are expected to reach up to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Tiger Woods, who limped his way to a +2 finish on Thursday, admitted he left an opportunity on the table given the forecast for the rest of the week.

“Today was the opportune time to get the round under par, and I didn’t do that,” Woods said, to ESPN. “Most of the guys are going low today. This was the day to do it. Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll be a little bit better, a little bit sharper and kind of inch my way through it. This is going to be an interesting finish to the tournament with the weather coming in. If I can just kind of hang in there, maybe kind of inch my way back.”

Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka are tied atop the leaderboard (-7) after Round 1 of The Masters. Hopefully the Masters Round 2 weather report does not cause a delay in what is setting up to be an action-packed weekend.

Needless to say, those at the top of the leaderboard are pleased they won’t have to battle sloppy conditions when trying to make a charge this weekend. But we will hope for the best, and continue to track for any more weather updates as the tournament progresses.
