CFB DFS differs from traditional NFL DFS in a few key areas. Rosters do not require a defense and instead incorporate a superflex where a second quarterback can be rostered. With the exception of short slates, using a second quarterback generally makes the most sense. From there, traditional stacking rules and other general football DFS strategies apply (such as looking at college football ownership projections). With that said, let’s get into the CFB Week 9 DFS picks and projections for Friday, Oct. 27.
CFB Week 9 DFS Picks and Projections | Friday, Oct. 27
Quarterback
Jalon Jones ($10,200): Charlotte is a 4-point underdog in a game with a 41 total, and it ranks 124th in pace and throws 44.4% of the time. However, they have a dual-threat quarterback in Jalon Jones at the helm. Jones already accounts for 447 cumulative rushing yards and comes off a game where he saw 27 designed rush attempts. Even with Jones averaging 93.8 passing yards per game, his rushing ability gives him an elite floor/ceiling combo.
Daniel Richardson ($9,800): FAU ranks 28th in pace and passes 57.9% of the time. Central Michigan transfer Daniel Richardson has taken over for an injured Casey Thompson. While inefficient and non-mobile, Richardson still averages 30.5 attempts per game. Unfortunately, this has only resulted in 174 passing yards per game. However, this volume keeps Richardson in play as a tournament option on this slate.
Running Back
Larry McCammon III ($8,800): The lone true feature back on this slate, Larry McCammon III averages 20 touches per game for 79.5 rushing and 26.2 receiving yards. He has at least 19 touches in three straight games, and Charlotte allows 4.5 yards per carry to opposing backs. He makes sense as a captain and flex option on this slate.
Shadrick Byrd ($7,000): Charlotte will play this game without Durell Robinson, reducing their running back rotation. Shadrick Byrd currently averages 9.4 touches per game, while Terron Kellman comes in averaging 7.0. However, Byrd has out-touched Kellman 33-14 over the last two games. With the recent divergence in touches, Byrd stands out for tournaments.
Wide Receiver
LaJohntay Wester ($10,000): FAU’s alpha receiver LaJohntay Wester averages 90.4 yards per game on 13.1 targets. His volume separates, making him a priority in lineups. He also offers captain appeal with most people likely to click Jones.
Jack Hestera ($8,400): Charlotte’s leading receiver Jack Hestera averages 47.2 receiving yards per game on 6.0 targets. While Hestera only saw two targets last game, he still figures to lead this team in targets when trailing. He makes sense as a contrarian option.
Jarius Mack ($4,800): Behind Hestera, Charlotte rotates receivers quite a bit. Last week, Duane Thomas Jr. and Jairus Mack participated in 65% and 60% of the routes. Mack’s 3.2 targets per game narrowly trail Thomas at 3.7, making him the preferred value option on this slate.
B.J. Alexander ($2,000): FAU uses Tony Johnson as the clear WR2 and Je’Quan Burton as the WR3. With that said, B.J. Alexander still receives about 30% of the routes as a rotational receiver. He averages 2.8 targets per game over FAU’s last four, but that could be enough as a value options. He allows all of the other studs into lineups.
