NBA DFS Value and Advice | March 14

Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards

Detroit has several players with potential for a big night, but wait for an injury report to know for sure who will play. If Killian Hayes takes the court, he could be a solid pick. R.J. Hampton and Rodney McGruder are great value options regardless of Hayes’ status, but they become more appealing if he sits out. Eugene Omoruyi is another strong value play assuming he starts in place of Marvin Bagley. On the Wizards’ side, Kyle Kuzma’s availability is in question. If he plays, Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal and Kuzma are all good choices. Beal and Porzingis become even better options if Kuzma is out. Deni Avdija and Corey Kispert offer value and they become more attractive if Kuzma is absent. Monte Morris may be underrated after getting his starting spot back last game.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Charlotte Hornets

Without Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley could see some center minutes for Cleveland. Lamar Stevens is likely to start, but he does not have much of an offensive role despite having a good point-per-dollar projection. Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell are both high-upside picks. Caris LeVert may find his way into the closing lineup and play more than 30 minutes. For the Hornets, Nick Richards is a strong option at $5,000. The starters are decent contrarian plays, but no one stands out as a must-have.

Denver Nuggets vs. Toronto Raptors

Jamal Murray’s status for Denver is uncertain, but Nikola Jokic is always a top pick if affordable. Murray could be a good contrarian option if he plays. None of the Raptors stand out, but their starters will play a lot of minutes, so they are all tournament worthy.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Spencer Dinwiddie, Mikal Bridges, Nic Claxton and Cameron Johnson are all solid plays from Brooklyn. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the only standout option from Oklahoma City. His $9,400 price tag on DraftKings is too cheap.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Anthony Davis thrives without LeBron James on the court, but his positional eligibility makes him harder to prioritize on DraftKings than on FanDuel. D’Angelo Russell is the easiest player to select from the Lakers. With Brandon Ingram’s status in question for the Pelicans, C.J. McCollum and Ingram are solid picks if he plays. McCollum is an even better choice if he is out, and it will make Trey Murphy, Naji Marshall, Herbert Jones and Josh Richardson more appealing.

Orlando Magic vs. San Antonio Spurs

This game is not great for the NBA, but it is a great game for DFS. Wendell Carter Jr., Markelle Fultz and Paolo Banchero are all good options for Orlando. Franz Wagner is questionable, and they will look marginally better if he is out. His absence could open up minutes for Jalen Suggs and/or Cole Anthony. Tre Jones and Malaki Branham are out for the Spurs, while Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan are questionable. Devin Vassell is a strong play regardless, but he becomes even more attractive if Johnson is out. Devonte’ Graham is likely to start and play 30-plus minutes again. Zach Collins is projected for little ownership, but he has a similar range of outcomes to similarly priced, higher-owned centers like Carter and Claxton. More value will open up if Johnson and/or Sochan sit.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns

Tuesday’s matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns is sure to be a great NBA game, but it may not be the best option for DFS purposes. While Giannis Antetokounmpo is always playable, his high price tag may limit his appeal in this matchup. Deandre Ayton looks like the best play for Phoenix, with his consistent rebounding and scoring ability. Chris Paul and Devin Booker are also viable options but may not offer as much upside as Ayton.

New York Knicks vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Jalen Brunson is doubtful for the game. This means that Immanuel Quickley, Josh Hart and R.J. Barrett should see increased playing time, with Julius Randle likely to see increased production as well. Mitchell Robinson is unaffected by Brunson’s absence, but at $5,100 he presents a decent value option. Damian Lillard and Jerami Grant are questionable for Portland. If both are in, there is not anything particularly interesting from a DFS standpoint. However, if one or both sit, Anfernee Simons will become a much stronger play, with Jusuf Nurkic likely to see a bump in production if Lillard is out.
