NFL DFS Picks | Week 5 DraftKings & FanDuel Wide Receiver Projections

Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

Irrespective of how the Vikings have underperformed as a team, Justin Jefferson has really not skipped a beat in production so far in 2023. He didn’t reach the 100-yard mark for the first time this season in Week 4’s road win over Carolina, yet still finished with six catches on nine targets for 85 yards and two trips to the end zone. Jefferson has racked up 33 receptions for 543 receiving yards and three TDs through the first four weeks.

The 24-year-old wideout tops the Week 5 WR pool and is second overall in DraftKings boom probability while being atop the boom probability percentages on FanDuel also — he’s at right around a 17% boom mark on DK and a shade over 19% on FD heading into this encounter with Kansas City. In Stokastic’s first run of projected ownership for NFL Week 5, Jefferson has a 19% ownership projection on DraftKings, and that number jumps to approximately 24% on FanDuel.

Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

We will have to see if the squeaky wheel gets the grease this Sunday after Ja’Marr Chase let his frustrations be known publicly following Week 4’s rough 27-3 loss to the Titans. Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense again were unable to get anything going, and Chase had to settle for seven catches on nine targets for 73 receiving yards. So far this season, he’s recorded 29 receptions on 41 targets for 284 receiving yards and has yet to score a touchdown.

Week 5 NFL DFS projections have the Bengals’ number one wideout down for 19.6 fantasy points at $7,900 on DraftKings and 15.5 fantasy points at $8,700 on FanDuel. Chase, who has played 96% of the snaps while recording a strong 29.6% target share, is right near the front of the pack in boom probability (and projected ownership) on both DraftKings and FanDuel for this road tilt against the Cardinals. He could have even more opportunities slide his way if teammate Tee Higgins is unable to play; Higgins missed practice time this week and is currently questionable.

Garrett Wilson, New York Jets

Is New York starting to figure things out with Zach Wilson? Robert Saleh’s crew pushed Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to the absolute limit in Week 4, and even though it didn’t result in a win, the performance on both sides of the ball had to have boosted confidence moving forward. The Jets offense should be liking its chances against a Broncos defense that has been getting destroyed on a weekly basis.

This could very well be the week Garrett Wilson finally breaks loose for a ceiling game, as he’s over the 11.5% mark in boom probability and his optimal percentage — the probability a player will be in the perfect lineup that slate — is at 17% on DraftKings. The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year ranks in the top six in both target share and snap rate through the first month of the season. Interestingly, Wilson’s DK salary has come all the way down to $6,000 ahead of this weekend’s game, while on FanDuel he’s listed at $7,400.

Also worth highlighting is Wan’Dale Robinson, who is sticking out in DraftKings projections at his low $3,000 salary. Robinson saw a bigger role in Week 4, playing 64% of the Giants’ snaps, and he is carrying a boom probability of over 15% for Week 5 against Miami.

NFL DFS Fades | Week 5 DraftKings & FanDuel Wide Receiver Projections

Tutu Atwell, Los Angeles Rams

Now that Cooper Kupp is expected to return to the fold in Week 5, reportedly without any kind of restrictions or limitations, the rest of the Rams’ pass-catchers will take varying degrees of hits to their week-to-week DFS value. Puka Nacua has been incredible in Kupp’s absence and should continue to get a lot of attention from Matthew Stafford, but it could be tougher sledding for Tutu Atwell, who has been targeted at least eight times in each of LA’s first four games.

Atwell has been playing a healthy number of snaps while Kupp has been gone, but his field time and general upside will likely take a dive now that the wide receiver corps is back to full strength. For Week 5 against the Eagles, the second-year pro has a 0.2% boom probability and 74.0% bust probability at $5,300 on DraftKings and a 0.1% boom probability and 62.7% bust probability at $5,800 on FanDuel.

As usual, it will be critical to monitor the news throughout the week to see if better daily fantasy football values open up before lock.

We should also remember that accurate player projections are just one piece of the NFL DFS puzzle and that other factors like projected ownership, roster construction and game theory should be considered when building lineups.
