Jalen Suggs Under 5.5 Assists (+100, BetRivers)

Along with Cole Anthony, rookie guard Jalen Suggs is part of what appears to be a very bright future for the Orlando Magic backcourt. Although it may not be translating to wins right away, Suggs has compiled decent season averages and entered the All-Star break on a particularly hot stretch. While he finished with seven and 10 assists in two of the four games directly before the break, Suggs’ season average in the category is still only 4.4 assists per game. With tonight’s NBA player props total set at 5.5 assists, Suggs would need to eclipse his typical production by a whopping 1.6 assists to cash the over.

It is worth noting that the Magic face the worst defensive team in the league tonight when they host the Houston Rockets. While this undoubtedly figures to increase Orlando’s offensive production, the statistical discrepancy when it comes to this NBA betting prop is still quite significant. Despite this, OddsShopper shows that the market is juiced to the over. In some cases, the vig is so large that it has created +100 odds on the under. Relative to the prices at other sportsbooks, these even-money odds offer a 15-cent advantage. As Awesemo only projects Suggs to finish with 4.83 assists, the favorable odds work to produce a massive ROI value of 29%.

LaMelo Ball Under 8.5 Assists (-141, FanDuel)

Like the NBA player props prediction above, we find another hefty statistical discrepancy when it comes to the assists total for LaMelo Ball tonight. The young Charlotte Hornets star notably entered the All-Star break on the heels of a triple-double effort that included a whopping 14 assists last Thursday. However, Ball also finished with six assists or less in five of the final nine games before the break. Furthermore, he enters Friday night’s contest averaging 7.5 assists per game. While that is certainly solid production in the category, it is also one full assist below the NBA betting line of 8.5.

Basic math can be done to quantify that Ball would need to outperform his average production by a full 1.5 assists in order for this NBA props wager to go over. Such an occurrence is even less likely to happen against tonight’s opponent, the Toronto Raptors. Along with a top-15 defensive efficiency ranking, the Raptors are just 23rd in Pace Factor this season. If Toronto is successfully able to slow down the tempo of tonight’s game, this could work against Ball’s bid to dish nine assists.

This time, OddsShopper reveals that the NBA player props market is juiced to the under. In fact, one sportsbook even lists Ball’s prop total one assist lower at 7.5. Despite needing to lay a minimum price of -141, bettors can still score a 15% expected ROI. Awesemo also gives the under a 67% win probability for this prop bet.

Malik Monk Under 16.5 Points (-124, FanDuel)

When it comes to variance in production, few players have been able to top Malik Monk this season. He has dropped any number of ginormous stat lines for the Los Angeles Lakers thus far. However, he has also had many games where he is hardly a factor at all. Consider the eight games directly prior to the All-Star break as evidence. Monk followed up a huge 33-point performance with only seven in the next game. Then, after stringing together three consecutive 20-point efforts, Monk failed to score more than 13 in any of the final three games going into the break.

While it is worth noting that his playing time has also bounced around as Los Angeles has desperately tried to find answers, Monk is only averaging 13.0 points per game on the full season. Fast forward to tonight’s matchup and Monk’s NBA player props scoring total is set at 16.5. This is again a scenario in which the player would need to drastically exceed his standard production in order to clear the NBA betting threshold. The matchup does not figure to do Monk any favors either. The Lakers face the crosstown rival Clippers, who come in with the eighth-best defensive efficiency rating in the league. As a result, this shapes up as a game in which bettors would be wise to fade most Lakers offensive props where appropriate.

While Awesemo’s projection of 13.51 points eclipses Monk’s season average, it still falls well below the betting total. OddsShopper also shows multiple sportsbooks listing this prop a full point lower at 15.5. When played at the optimal line and odds, this under prediction carries a hefty 29% ROI value.
