The 2020 NFL season is coming in hot, which means your betting card for the season needs a double-check. We’re going to be going over a copious amount of NFL futures bets, NFL odds, NFL betting picks and NFL predictions for the 2020 campaign. Sportsbooks have released win totals for every team, and we’re going to examine strengths, weaknesses, schedules and make predictions on the over/under. Right now, we’re looking at the Los Angeles Chargers.
The last few seasons gave us some up and down experiences for the Chargers. It was two seasons ago we saw them give Lamar Jackson his first loss in his postseason debut. Their defense was impressive, and it looked as if they would be borderline great for years. Sadly, injuries were a large part of their dismal season in 2019. More injuries have mounted since and the team is rebuilding a bit now. Derwin James was one of the best players at his position in the NFL when healthy, but he has yet again been ruled out for significant time. James is expected to miss the entire season, and now they no longer have Melvin Gordon or Philip Rivers in uniform. A new era has begun with Justin Herbert expected to get some playing time in his rookie campaign. Tyrod Taylor has been a decent journeymen signal-caller over the years and should start at least for the early part of the season. The Chargers have a respectable win total despite all their recent losses. The question remains if they can come close to where they were two seasons ago as a very talented franchise.

Strengths
Austin Ekeler was one of the best catching backs we have seen come out of nowhere in a while. Nearly 100 catches for 1,000 yards was incredible. He can do it all out of the backfield, but he likely will be on the radar for every opponent on the schedule. Keenan Allen has been a star for years now, but it will be fun to see how well he does without Rivers at the helm. The pieces are there offensively, but they need health and production on their side with Mike Williams (out for most of September) and whoever starts throughout the season under center.
Weaknesses
The offensive line was flat-out abysmal last season and that is bad news for a potential rookie playing. Taylor can move around in the pocket, but his arm isn’t quite the caliber of Rivers’. Even as bad as Rivers was last season, the offense is likely to take a major step back if their offensive line and quarterback play don’t play exceptionally well. The defense should keep them in most games, but their safety play could be a struggle with James out for the season.
Schedule
The Chargers should start out somewhere between 3-7 and 5-5, but that schedule is back loaded with the best of them after that. I foresee a situation in which the Chargers would be an underdog in arguably their final seven games. I could see them winning one or two of them but no more than that. This schedule needs to chill because Chargers fans sure won’t enjoy the results.
Prediction
This team is one of my least favorite values. The changing of the guard could be here. Is Taylor the quarterback to lead them to the postseason? Had James and Gordon both returned and stayed healthy, then the Chargers could have been in playoff contention. I do not like their chances of being a playoff dark horse. The defense isn’t as athletic in the secondary, and there are way too many questions offensively. I will gladly take the under with plus money. This is a team that will be picking in the eight or so of the 2021 NFL Draft.
