College Basketball Picks: NCAA Championship Predictions

This season, Kansas is ranked 23rd nationally, scoring 78.4 points per game while North Carolina is not too far behind at 28th scoring 78.1. The spread is currently sitting at Kansas -4 with an over/under of 151.5. With already having a future on Kansas in tonight’s game, the focus of this game is the over 151.5. North Carolina has put together an incredible run throughout this tournament, averaging 82.2 points per game essentially using only five players to do so. The Jayhawks, on the other hand, have a slightly deeper team working inside out, using bigs David McCormack and Jalen Wilson. They make use of their sixth man in Remy Martin, which could very well be the difference in a game where North Carolina will rely on their starting five to contribute almost all of their offensive production. Rounding out a well-balanced Kansas team is future NBA player Ochai Agbaji, who is coming off of a 21-point performance where he showed flashes of his ability to take over a game. Agbaji took only eight shots against Villanova, hitting six of them and in a more up-tempo game tonight the Jayhawks should be getting him more involved. Kansas has averaged 77 points per game in the tournament but has played at one of the fastest tempos and should look to push the pace against a North Carolina defense that ranks in the bottom half nationally in post and transition defense.

Both teams thrive when the pace of the game is high and when they are pushing the pace, these offenses are at their most efficient. The Tar Heels have relied on their 3-point shooting and can be expected to go back to it tonight, where they should look to get Brady Manek and Caleb Love involved early and often. Sophomore guard Love has the ability to break a game open in the blink of an eye and attacks the defense in a plethora of ways. Using his speed and quickness gives him the ability to drive the lane and blow by defenders who also have to respect his 3-point shot on the perimeter. In the semifinal game against Duke, Love scored 28 points which included three 3-pointers in crucial moments of the game, propelling the Tar Heels to victory.

Tonight’s matchup to watch is down low, where Armando Bacot will be going head-to-head with McCormack. This matchup could decide the game but more importantly, it will further influence the over. McCormack has the ability to dominate down low when he wants to and although Bacot is a plus defender, foul trouble will be looming and both low-post players should shoot with great efficiency. This matchup will set the tone for what should be an incredible game. The college basketball season has come and gone and for anyone who has any type of future on the Kansas Jayhawks, tonight is a night to enjoy the game and root for points.
