NFL DFS: Thursday’s Preseason Week 3 Value Plays, Sleepers & NFL DFS Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel (August 25)

Week 3 of the NFL Preseason continues with a two-game slate on Thursday (Aug. 25, 2022). Like Week 1, the most important factor in preseason DFS is projecting playing time. This piece will dig into the roster of each team and pinpoint exactly where that value might come from and be the ultimate guide for making the best NFL DFS picks tonight for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

Green Bay Packers

QB1 – Aaron Rodgers – Rodgers won’t play this preseason.

QB2 – Jordan Love – Love has now played 103 snaps, completing 25 of 48 passes for 289 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He only has three rush attempts for 37 yards.

QB3 – Danny Etling – Etling has now taken 31 snaps, completing seven of nine passes for 123 yards and one touchdown. He has six rush attempts for 66 yards on the ground.

RB1 – Aaron Jones – Jones won’t play this preseason.

RB2 – A.J. Dillon – Dillon won’t play this preseason.

RB3 – Kylin Hill – Hill is on PUP.

RB4 – Patrick Taylor – Taylor has 37 snaps over two weeks, rushing 11 times for 37 yards and going catchless on three targets.

RB5 – Tyler Goodson – Goodson is an undrafted free agent out of Iowa. He is 5-foot-9, 197 pounds and ran a 4.42 40-yard dash. He caught 31 passes last year and rushed for 1,151 yards. Goodson has 61 snaps over two weeks. He has 21 rush attempts for 79 yards and three catches on four targets.

RB6 – Dexter Williams – The Packers signed Williams Aug. 10. Williams has 41 has 22 snaps over two weeks. He has eight rush attempts for 53 yards and no catches on two targets.

WR1 – Allen Lazard – Lazard won’t play this preseason.

WR2 – Randall Cobb – Cobb won’t play this preseason.

WR3 – Romeo Doubs – Doubs was the 132nd pick in the fourth round out of Nevada. He is 6-foot-2, 201 pounds and ran a 4.47 40-yard dash. Doubs has a 41% route rate and six catches on 12 targets for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

WR4 Christian Watson – Watson was the 34th pick in the second round out of North Dakota State. He is 6-foot-4, 208 pounds and ran a 4.40 40-yard dash. Watson was activated off PUP on Aug 15 after dealing with injury. He has progressed to 11 v 11 in practice and will play in preseason Week 3 “if he’s able to go”.

WR5 – Amari Rodgers – Rodgers has a 70% route rate, catching three of seven targets for 27 yards and one touchdown.

WR6 – Sammy Watkins – Watkins didn’t play in the first two preseason games and looks unlikely to play here.

WR7 – Juwann Winfree – Winfree has a 56% route rate, catching six of nine targets for 68 yards.

WR8 – Samori Toure – Toure was the 259th pick in the seventh round out of Nebraska. He is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and ran a 4.44 40-yard dash. He was an FCS All-American with Montana before transferring to Nebraska for his final year. Toure has a 49% route rate, catching three of five targets for 42 yards.

WR9 – Ishmael Hyman – Hyman has a 19% route rate, catching his only target.

WR10 – Travis Fulgham – Fulgham was claimed Aug. 17. He caught one of three targets for 11 yards on 18 routes in week 2.

TE1- Robert Tonyan – Tonyan is rehabbing a torn ACL, but he was activated off PUP on Aug 15. He still isn’t doing team drills.

TE2 – Marcedes Lewis – Lewis didn’t play in the first two preseason games and remains unlikely to play Week 3.

TE3 – Josiah Deguara – Deguara played 45 snaps so far and 25 routes, catching three of five targets for 23 yards.

TE4 – Tyler Davis – Davis has played 50 snaps so far, running 24 routes. He caught one of two targets so far.

TE5-foot- Sal Cannella – Cannella was the New Orleans Breakers’ tight end in the USFL. He is 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and a pure receiving tight end. Cannella has 13 snaps and five routes all preseason.

TE6 – Alize Mack – Mack has 54 snaps, but no routes.

TE7 – Nate Becker – Becker was claimed Aug. 15, but he played in preseason Week 2, running eight routes and making one catch for 7 yards.

K1 – Mason CrosbyCrosby has been sidelined with a knee injury.

K2 – Ramiz Ahmed – Green Bay cut Gabe Brkic and signed Ramiz Ahmed on Aug. 14.

Kansas City Chiefs

QB1 – Patrick Mahomes – Mahomes has 36 snaps this preseason, completing 18 of 26 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Andy Reid said he is undecided on the starters playing in Week 3.

QB2 – Chad Henne – Henne played five snaps in Week 1 before missing Week 2.

QB3 – Shane Buechele – Buechele has 58 snaps, completing 20 of 34 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He has 41 rushing yards in the preseason.

QB4 – Dustin Crum – Crum is an undrafted free agent out of Kent State. He is 6-foot-1, 210 pounds and rushed for 703 yards in 2021. Cum has 31 snaps, completing nine of 14 passes for 45 yards. He has two rush attempts for 26 yards.

RB1 – Clyde Edwards-Helaire – Edwards-Helaire played 15 snaps, rushing four times for 10 yards,

RB two – Jerick McKinnon – McKinnon played eight snaps

RB3 – Isiah Pacheco – Pacheco was drafted 252nd overall in the seventh round out of Rutgers. He is 5-foot-10, 216 pounds and ran a 4.37 40-yard dash. Pacheco has 23 snaps, rushing six times 14 yards. He caught all three targets for 21 yards.

RB4 – Ronald Jones – Jones is allegedly lower on the depth chart than last year. He has consistently worked with the third team during camp. Jones played 19 snaps, rushing four times for 1 yard.

RB5 – Jerrion Ealy – Ealy is an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss. He is 5-foot-8, 189 pounds and ran a 4.52 40-yard dash. Ealy is moving between wide receiver and running back. He played 22 snaps.

RB6 – Tayon Fleet-Davis – Fleet-Davis is an undrafted free agent out of Maryland. He is 6-foot-0, 220 pounds and ran a 4.73 40-yard dash. He played 30 snaps, rushing seven times for 5 yards. He also has two catches on three targets.

WR1 – JuJu Smith-Schuster – Smith-Schuster will miss preseason Week 3.

WR2 – Marquez Valdes-Scantling – Valdes-Scantling posted a 24% route rate, catching three of six targets for 25 yards.

WR3 – Mecole Hardman – Hardman played four snaps in Week 1 before missing Week 2 with injury. His injury was considered minor, so he should return here.

WR4 – Skyy Moore – Moore was the 54th pick in the second round out of Western Michigan. He is 5-foot-10, 195 pounds and ran a 4.41 40-yard dash. He caught 95 passes for 1,292 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. Moore has a 36% route rate, catching three of his four targets for 23 yards.

WR5 – Justin Watson – Watson is getting some first team reps at camp. He has a 39% route rate, catching seven of nine targets for 98 yards and one touchdown.

WR6 – Daurice Fountain – Fountain has a 29% route rate, catching all four of his targets for 51 yards.

WR7 – Josh Gordon – Gordon has been up and down between the first and second unit, often working with Henne. He has a 34% route rate, catching one of five targets for 10 yards.

WR8 – Cornell Powell – Powell has a 35% route rate, catching seven of nine targets for 45 yards.

WR9 – Corey Coleman – Coleman has a 29% route rate, catching one of two targets for 15 yards.

WR10 – Aaron Parker – Parker is target-less on a 12% route rate. this preseason.

TE1- Travis Kelce – Kelce played 16 snaps, running 12 routes and catching three of four targets for 42 yards.

TE2 – Blake Bell – Bell underwent hip surgery and will miss Week 3.

TE3 – Noah Gray – Gray played 43 snaps and ran 28 routes. He caught two of three targets for 34 yards.

TE4 – Jody Fortson – Fortson missed Week 1, but he returned in Week 2. He played 29 snaps and ran 20 routes. Fortson caught four of five targets for 19 yards and two touchdowns.

TE5 – Matt Bushman – Bushman played 15 snaps and ran seven routes in Week 1, but he missed Week 2.

TE6 – Jordan Franks – Franks played 56 snaps and ran 31 routes, catching two of four targets for 12 yards.

K1 – Harrison Butker

San Francisco 49ers

QB1 – Trey Lance – Lance played 11 snaps in Week 1, completing four of five passes for 92 yards and one touchdown. He only rushed for 7 yards in his debut. Lance only rushed once in his debut. Shanahan previously said that Lance would only play in Weeks one and 3. Lance may play until half time allegedly.

QB2 – Nate Sudfeld – Sudfeld played 57 snaps, completing 21 of 28 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

QB3 – Brock Purdy– Purdy was the 263rd pick in the seventh round out of Iowa State. Purdy rushed for at least 238 yards in every college season. He played 67 snaps, completing 17 of 29 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown. Purdy hasn’t shown much of his mobility with four rushing yards.

RB1 – Elijah Mitchell – Mitchell will not play this preseason. in hope of being ready for Week 1.

RB2 – Jeff Wilson– Wilson did not play in Week 1 or Week 2. He is expected to start in Week 3, according to Shanahan.

RB3 – JaMycal Hasty – Hasty played 42 snaps, rushing eight times for 51 yards, while catching two of three targets.

RB4 – Trey Sermon – Sermon played 27 snaps, rushing 11 times for 19 yards, while catching two of three targets.

RB5 – Tyrion Davis-Price – Davis-Price was the 93rd pick in the third round out of LSU. He rushed for 1,003 yards and caught 10 passes last year. He is 6-foot-0, 21 pounds and ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. He played 40 snaps, rushing 20 times for 77 yards. He also caught one of two targets.

RB6 – Jordan Mason – Mason is an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech. He is 5-foot-11, 223 pounds and ran a 4.58 40-yard dash. Mason played 30 snaps, rushing 15 times for 87 yards. He hasn’t seen a target.

RB- seven – Kyle Juszczyk – Full Back – Juszczyk hasn’t played this preseason.

WR1 – Deebo Samuel – Samuel hasn’t played this preseason but could appear in Week 3 with the other starters.

WR2 – Brandon Aiyuk – Aiyuk hasn’t played this preseason but could appear in Week 3 with the other starters.

WR3 – Jauan Jennings – Jennings has a 17.6% route rate, catching two of four targets.

WR4 – Ray-Ray McCloud – McCloud has been working with the Sudfeld group. He has a 24.3% route rate, catching all four of his targets for 63 yards and one touchdown.

WR5 – Danny Gray – Gray was the 105th pick in the third round out of SMU. He is 6-foot-0, 186 pounds and ran a 4.33 40-yard dash. He has been working across the quarterback units. Gray has a 55.4% route rate, catching four of eight targets for 123 yards and one touchdown.

WR6 – Malik Turner – Turner played 56.8% of the routes, catching three of six targets for 63 yards.

WR7 – Tay Martin – Martin is an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State. He is 6-foot-3, 186 pounds and ran a 4.58 40-yard dash. Martin participated in 14.9% of the routes, catching two of three targets for 7 yards.

WR8 – Austin Mack – Mack was an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Ohio State. He is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and previously spent time with the New York Giants. Mack participated in 13.5% of the routes, catching one of three targets for 9 yards.

WR9 – Marcus Johnson – Johnson participated in 28.4% of the routes, catching two of three targets for 19 yards.

WR10 – Willie Snead – Snead was signed 8/7 and did not play in Week 1. Snead participated in 28 routes in Week 2. He caught all three of his targets for 25 yards.

TE1- George Kittle – Kittle hasn’t played this preseason but could appear in Week 3 with the other starters.

TE2 – Ross Dwelley – Dwelley played 46 snaps, running 26 routes. He caught all four of his targets for 41 yards.

TE3Charlie Woerner – The 49ers activated Woerner from the PUP on Aug. 14. They still may bring him along slowly, making him questionable for the rest of preseason.

TE4 – Tyler Kroft – Kroft played 27 snaps, running 14 routes.

TE5 – Troy Fumagalli – Fumagalli played 62 snaps, running 17 routes. He caught both of his targets for 17 yards.

K1 – Robbie Gould

Houston Texans

QB1 – Davis Mills – Mills played 36 snaps, completing 13 of 20 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown. Lovie Smith said, “We’re going to play the guys a lot more this week.” Expect at least a half from Mills and somewhere around there for the other starters.

QB2 – Jeff Driskel – Driskel played 61 snaps, completing 19 of 29 passes for 182 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has 41 rushing yards this preseason.

QB3 – Kyle Allen – Allen missed Week 1 with COVID-19, but he played in Week 2. He played 25 snaps, completing nine of 12 passes for 71 yards and one touchdown.

RB1 – Marlon Mack – Mack played 22 snaps, rushing 11 times for 35 yards. He has no targets.

RB2 – Rex Burkhead – Burkhead didn’t play in Week 1, but he played 15 snaps in Week 2. He rushed twice for 5 yards and caught all three of his targets.

RB3 – Dameon Pierce – Pierce was drafted 107th overall in the fourth round out of Florida. He was a part time player, but he is 5-foot-10, 218 pounds and ran a 4.59 40-yard dash. He played 11 snaps but rushed for 49 yards on five carries. Pierce did not play in Week 2.

RB4 – Dare Ogunbowale – Ogunbowale played 21 snaps, rushing six times for 27 yards. He also caught his only target.

RB5 – Royce Freeman – Freeman played 53 snaps, rushing 21 times for 55 yards and catching all five of his targets.

RB6 – Paul Quessenberry – Fullback, but he played 15 snaps

RB7 – Troy Hairston – Fullback, but he played six snaps.

WR1 – Brandin Cooks – Cooks hasn’t played in the preseason.

WR2 – Nico Collins – Collins participated in 27.8% of the routes, catching four of six targets for 48 yards and one touchdown.

WR3 – Chris Moore – Moore participated in 47.2% of the routes, catching three of six targets for 32 yards.

WR4 – Chris Conley – Conley participated in 19.4% of the routes, catching two of four targets for 6 yards.

WR5 – Phillip Dorsett – Dorsett participated in 37.5% of the routes, catching all five of his targets for 66 yards.

WR6 – Connor Wedington – Wedington has gotten some reps with Mills. He participated in 47.2% of the routes, catching three of four targets for 12 yards.

WR7 – Jalen Camp – Camp participated in 33.3% of the routes, catching three of seven targets for 62 yards and one touchdown.

WR8 – Johnny Johnson – Johnson is an undrafted free agent out of Oregon. He is 6-foot-0, 197 pounds and ran a 4.60 40-yard dash. Johnson participated in 20.8% of the routes, catching two of three targets for 25 yards and one touchdown.

WR9 – Drew Estrada – Estrada is an undrafted free agent out of Baylor, who stands 6-foot-0, 196 pounds. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. Estrada returned to practice on Aug. 22.

TE1- Pharaoh Brown – Brown is mostly a blocker, but he played six snaps and ran four routes. He did not play in Week 2 and isn’t practicing as of Aug. 22.

TE2 – Brevin Jordan – Jordan played 44 snaps, running 25 routes. He caught all three of his targets for 14 yards.

TE3 – Antony Auclair – Auclair is mostly a blocker, and he hasn’t played in the preseason yet. He isn’t practicing as of Aug. 22.

TE4 – Teagan Quitoriano – Quitoriano was drafted 170th overall in the fifth round out of Oregon State. He is 6-foot-7, 258 pounds and caught 19 passes for 214 yards. He is mostly a blocker. He didn’t play in Week 1, but he played 15 snaps in Week 2, running five routes. He caught his only target for 6 yards and one touchdown.

TE5 – Mason Schreck – Schreck played 42 snaps, running 13 routes. He caught both targets for 13 yards and one touchdown.

TE6 – Seth Green – Green is an undrafted free agent out of Houston. He stands 6-foot-4, 240 pounds and caught 13 passes for 157 yards. He was only a part time player, but he also blocked as his primary role. Green played 42 snaps, running 25 routes. He caught three of four targets for 16 yards.

K1 – Ka’imi Fairbairn
