Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: What Week 2 Quarterbacks Have Week-Winning Upside?

By dissecting each matchup for Week 2, we will see how it will positively and negatively impact each quarterback. Keeping tabs on the fantasy football rankings is crucial to know where players are rising and falling throughout the week at any given position. Here are the star/sit options for NFL Week 2.

Week 2 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks

Must Start: Teddy Bridgewater – Denver Broncos (at Jacksonville Jaguars)

Bridgewater gets an excellent matchup with the Jaguars this week. Jacksonville made Tyrod Taylor look like an elite fantasy quarterback in Week 1, so this defense should be no issue for Bridgewater. Bridgewater threw 36 passing times last week, completing 28 for 264 yards and two touchdowns and ranking 14th at the position. It is likely that Bridgewater lost star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy for a chunk of the season, but KJ Hamler and Tim Patrick could fill this role decently until Jeudy returns.

Must Start: Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills (at Miami Dolphins)

While Allen finished outside of the top 20 quarterbacks in Week 1, he still had an OK game, going 30-for-51 for 270 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed nine times for 44 yards. This week’s matchup is tough against the Dolphins, as they have a strong pass defense. However, last year Allen carved up Miami, so expect a bounce-back week here.

Must Start: Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. Las Vegas Raiders)

Roethlisberger was in a tough matchup against the Bills, and he recorded just 188 yards and a touchdown on 32 attempts. The matchup this week against the Raiders is far more favorable, however, as the Raiders are coming off a short week and a game in which they allowed 27 points. Roethlisberger also plays much better at home, and this matchup is in Pittsburgh.

Must Start: Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers (vs. Detroit Lions)

Rodgers struggled immensely against the Saints in Week 1, as he was outside of the top 32 at the quarterback position. His stat line was atrocious: 15 completions 133 yards and two interceptions. The Packers as a whole did not play well on either side of the ball, as the defense was routed by Jameis Winston. This week there should be a clear path for a bounce back. The Lions have a miserable defense, and unless the Packers are completely falling apart, Rodgers should regain some form.

Must Sit: Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Ryan played terrible on Sunday, throwing 35 times and completing 21 for 164 yards. If he looked that bad against the Eagles, imagine how bad it will look against one of the best defenses in the league in the Buccaneers. While Calvin Ridley normally has some of his best games against the Buccaneers, Ryan will likely struggle.

Must Sit: Tyrod Taylor – Houston Texans (at Cleveland Browns)

Taylor was a top-12 quarterback in Week 1, going 21-for-33 for 291 yards and a pair. This week, however, the Texans get a harder matchup with the Browns. While Patrick Mahomes had his way with the Cleveland defense, it will be very difficult for Taylor to do that with the surrounding weapons in Houston. Expect a down game for Taylor, though he may be an ideal start in more positive matchups down the road.

Must Sit: Andy Dalton – Chicago Bears (vs. Cincinnati Bengals)

Dalton did not look bad against a heavily fortified Rams defense, throwing for 206 yards and an interception. However, despite the excellent matchup against the Bengals, there is not much upside with Dalton. Plus, eventually he will be benched for Justin Fields. Until then he is no more than a bench quarterback.

Must Sit: Jared Goff – Detroit Lions (at Green Bay Packers)

Goff threw a whopping 57 times in Week 1, completing 38 for 338 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. However, the matchup this week will be tough. The Packers defense may have looked terrible against the Saints, but the expectation is that they will return strongly this week. Goff also has virtually no weapons in the Detroit offense, so a spiral back down to normalcy is more likely.
