2023 3M Open PGA DFS Core Plays: Sungjae’s Got Just the Right Game

The PGA TOUR returns to TPC Twin Cities this week for the 3M Open. Last week’s British Open Championship was anti-climactic, but hopefully we’ll have more excitement this week at TPC Twin Cities. It’s a 7,400 yard, par 71 that features water hazards at every turn. Accuracy off the tee coupled with the ability to pile up birdies is the recipe for success on this course. Let’s dive into this week’s PGA DFS Core Plays  on DraftKings for the 3M Open.

Sungjae Im, $10,300

Driving accuracy is going to be crucial this week because water hazards come into play on a staggering thirteen out of eighteen holes. Sungjae Im has proven his proficiency in that area. He is hitting over 65% of fairways throughout this season and his previous performances at TPC Twin Cities have been impressive. Im has two starts here, securing 15th in one and a 2nd place finish in the other. He ranks 5th in Birdie or Better Percentage in this field over the last fifty rounds. That’s a key metric that I’m considering this week given that the winning score could approach the -20 range. Sungjae is my favorite PGA DFS core play at the top of the board.

Beau Hossler, $8,000

It’s been an up and down season for Beau Hossler. After four straight missed cuts in February and March, Hossler has bounced back by making the cut in 8 of his last 10 starts. He has also put together his best two iron performances of the entire season in back to weeks. Those are buying signs for a high upside player like Hossler.

Moreover, the return to bentgrass greens this week should add to his advantage. Hossler is the #1 ranked player in the field in Strokes Gained: Putting on bentgrass greens over the last 100 tracked rounds. It’s only a matter of time before he delivers one of his patented spike putting performances. I would rather be early than late on that, making Beau Hossler another one my top PGA DFS picks for the 3M Open.

Aaron Rai, $7,900

With three finishes inside the top 12 over his last six events, it’s safe to say Aaron Rai is playing some of the best golf of his career. Rai’s consistency across the bag has really ignited his recent run, in which he’s gained over 30 strokes on the field Tee to Green over his last six events. He’s ranked inside the top 5 in both Fairways Gained and Strokes Gained: Approach over the last 50 rounds. Rai’s game is a perfect match for the demands of TPC Twin Cities. He’s a fantastic value play at the top of the $7k range on DraftKings, and it’s why Aaron Rai is my third choice as a PGA DFS pick this week.

GPP Flier – Doug Ghim, $7,400

Doug Ghim has been playing some very steady golf of late. He had a disappointing missed cut at the Scottish Open but that was due in part to the less-than-ideal conditions. Ghim has made 7 of his last 8 cuts since the beginning of May, finishing no lower than 33rd in that stretch. He is another player that’s extremely accurate off the tee. He has also been comfortable at this event over the years, including two top 20 finishes in his three starts. While Ghim might not have the elite scoring ability necessary to win this event, his ability to avoid big numbers and play consistent golf should keep him in the mix for a top ten finish. Ghim is a top GPP flier core play for DraftKings PGA DFS this week.
